30th Anniversary of the POW/MIA Recognition Ride

Woodland Park, CO

The 30th ANNUAL POW/MIA RECOGNITION RIDE will stage at the Woodland Park High School on Saturday morning. What has become “Colorado’s largest procession of motorcycles” will roll through the mountains under police escort and arrive in style to the cheering supporters at the Rally.

For those of you not going on the Recognition Ride, we suggest that you get out on Bennett Avenue early and get a good spot to watch the 25th ANNUAL VETERANS PARADE. The parade kicks off on the east end of Bennett Avenue at approximately 10:00 am Saturday morning.

Colorado’s largest procession of motorcycles Celebrates 30 YEARS

In 2017, the annual POW/MIA Recognition Ride will celebrate 30 years as Colorado’s largest procession of motorcycles. The ride's founder has a tough time believing that it has been a quarter of a century since the Patriotic display of support began.

“It’s just amazing how quickly time flies,” said Jim Wear, “It’s really tough to fathom that this is our 30th year. We are really humbled by all the support that has been given to the Recognition Ride over the past two and one half decades.
I mean, it’s not about us. Sure, we started it but the credit goes to every single motorcyclist who has ever participated in the ride. They are the ride. They are the strength and honor.”

Again this year, the Salute to American Veterans Rally Committee is proud to bring the 30th annual POW/MIA Recognition Ride from the Woodland Park High School, through the rocky mountains and into Cripple Creek.

In 2016, thousands of bikes, led by the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association and the Kansas Patriot Guard Riders thundered through the Rocky Mountains toward their final destination: The Annual Salute to American Veterans Rally and Festival.

The POW/MIA Recognition Ride was started the same year as the world renowned “Run for the Wall” from Los Angeles California to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. The Colorado based Recognition Ride is the oldest and longest standing Veterans Motorcycling event in the Western United States.

Today, the Recognition Ride is still about recognizing our Nations Prisoners of War and Missing in Action, but it has also evolved into something more: “This procession, and the multi-day rally which follows, has really become a sojourn for American Veterans.” Said Stu Sacks, Rally Committee Chairman, and United States Veteran. “You see, Vets are like brothers and sisters. The camaraderie that they share cannot be described. It is a feeling. For many of these Vets, the Recognition Ride is the one time each year that they see each other. For many, I think it’s almost like a homecoming. I can’t tell how many times a complete stranger has approached me or one of my staff to thank us and convey their gratitude for our effort.” Sacks added, “That is what this is all about.”

The Salute to America Veterans Rally Committee invites all of you to take part in Colorado’s largest procession of motorcycles, and join the original Patriot Guard Riders, The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Assn., American patriots and military dignitaries in what promises to be a parade of bikes stretching for miles across the Mountains.

“Thirty years. It really blows us away.” Said Wear. “The strength and longevity of this ride is a small reflection of the honor and courage displayed by every single one of our nation’s veterans throughout the history of this great country. We couldn’t be more proud to be a small part of it all.”
